Frequently Asked Questions
What is PPGA?
We are Planned Parenthood Generation Action at The College of New Jersey. We strive to educate the public and campus community about sexual health and reproductive rights. We also aim to teach others about the resources that Planned Parenthood provides. Through programming, service, and political activism, our members reach out to the immediate community and beyond in hopes of making a difference. PPGA at TCNJ is part of the greater Planned Parenthood Generation Action Coalition, a proactive advocacy and service initiative to expand and secure reproductive rights into the next century.
What does PPGA stand for?
PPGA stands for Planned Parenthood Generation Action. You can read more about the overall purpose of PPGA on the national scale here!
What can PPGA do for me?
PPGA offers a comfortable, inclusive environment to talk about all reproductive rights, sexual health, and feminist issues you may desire. As an added incentive, we offer FREE condoms and Pregnancy tests.
How do I get involved with PPGA?
Come to one of our weekly meetings for the Fall 2017 semester at 8:30 PM on Tuesdays in the Women's Center (located in the second floor of the Stud). You can also e-mail us at [email protected].
Where is the Women's Center?
The Women's Center is in the second floor of the Brower Student Center on the renovated side. Text 609-228-9171 for help! There will also be an E-Board member waiting in the Student Center Lounge to escort/help students for the first few meetings of the semester.
What do PPGA's meetings entail?
PPGA holds meetings of all kinds. Usually meetings are discussion-based about a specific reproductive/sexual health or rights issue. We do occasional movie screenings, game nights, and craft nights. We also do events such as Student Center tabling. Meetings are laid-back and non-committal. Drop by any time!
I want a pregnancy test, but I don't want anyone to know. Can you guys help?
You betcha! Morgan (Vice President) has a special phone number you can text to ask for pregnancy test(s). The number is 609-228-9171. If you text this number, only Morgan will know and she will respond entirely free of judgement. You can also Facebook message or Email PPGA's account, which can only be seen by the E-Board. Your situation will always be handled with care and privacy.
Does PPGA support abortion?
PPGA is pro-choice. It is important to note that pro-choice signifies "freedom to choose" and is not synonymous with "pro-abortion." PPGA supports your right to make informed decisions about health, sexuality, and family planning. Regarding abortion, we support the right to an informed decision, whether this decision be raising the child, adoption, or abortion. We do not encourage or promote abortion above other options.
PPGA's overall mission is to spread awareness of reproductive health and reproductive choice. This mission is very expansive and addresses a range of issues beyond the preservation of a woman's right to choose. This includes the availability and proper use of contraceptives, STD awareness, family planning, OBGYN services, and more.
For more information about being pro-choice, visit our What is Choice? page.
What is escorting?
Escorting means walking and physically guarding folks who are seeking Planned Parenthood services from their vehicles to the building amid protests. These people can be seeking any of the many services PP provides- from low-cost/free condoms, contraceptives, STI testing, and yes, even abortion services- and it can be very jarring for them to be confronted by protesters. Your presence creates a physical barrier between the person and the protesters that makes them feel more at ease. That is why we are trying to team up with a Health Center in the area in need of escorting to aid those in need of protection.
How do I contact PPGA @ TCNJ?
Feel free to email us any time at [email protected]! You can also text (609)-228-9171 or shoot us a Facebook message.
