Being Pro-Choice
Planned Parenthood Generation Action at TCNJ is a pro-choice organization. Being pro-choice signifies "freedom to choose" and is not synonymous with "pro-abortion." PPGA supports your right to make informed decisions about health, sexuality, and family planning. Regarding abortion, we support the right to an informed decision, whether this decision be raising the child, adoption, or abortion. We do not encourage or promote abortion above other options. Being pro-choice means supporting access to ALL reproductive options—contraception, parenthood, abortion, or adoption—and supporting the right of ALL individuals to make their own decision about if and when to have a child.
Being pro-choice means believing:
Many people who would not choose to have an abortion recognize that each person’s situation is unique. If you believe abortion is wrong for you but respect the right of other individuals to make that choice for themselves, and oppose restrictions on that decision, then you are pro-choice.
PPGA's overall mission is to spread awareness of reproductive health and reproductive choice. This mission is very expansive and addresses a range of issues beyond the preservation of a person with a uterus's right to choose. This includes the availability and proper use of contraceptives, STI awareness, family planning, OB/GYN services, and more.
Being pro-choice means believing:
- Every person with a uterus should have access to safe and legal abortion.
- People with uteri should be respected to make their own reproductive healthcare decisions, including abortion, adoption, and parenting.
- Individuals have the right to contraception.
- Individuals have the right to accurate information & education about sexuality & reproduction.
- The choice of abortion & birth control should be left up to an individual & their doctor.
- The government should not be involved in the private & personal matters of individuals.
- The ability to decide freely & responsibly if & when to have a child is a fundamental human right.
- Reproductive freedom is essential to women’s, non-binary folks', and trans folks' rights & gender equality.
- We need to continue to fight to achieve broader access to reproductive health care and choice for everyone.
